Biography of Aparna Banerjee




Aparna Banerjee is a social entrepreneur who started Project Sukanya in 2005 and is well known not only in Kolkata but also across the country.

While Aparna Banerjee was studying for an MBA qualification with a concentration in the field of Supply Chain Management from the Xavier Labor Relations Institute, she also started working on a distribution model based on micro-management. The research aims to link rural suppliers to urban consumers. This was the beginning of Aparna Banerjee's path to Project Sukanya.

Since childhood, Aparna Banerjee wanted to become a boss herself. At the age of 17, her father quit his job. Aparna Banerjee decided to start manufacturing transformers to earn a living when our family was short of cash. She was able to make a profit of Rs 18,000 in the first three months. Even as a teenager her business acumen was impressive and her earnings reached 1.8 crores on her 21st birthday.

After she achieved great success with her start-up company, Aparna Banerjee finally decided to hone her skills and build on her strengths as an entrepreneur. This is something every child can take away from Aparna Banerjee. It is important to know our strengths and weaknesses.

We are all blessed with certain abilities and talents and it is our duty to discover our strengths and use them for our professional and personal fields of work.

Project Sukanya is a platform for skilled women to market handmade and home-made products and earn money – a method of providing employment to Project Sukanya women. Mobile carts emblazoned with the word "Bow" have been placed at key junctions across Kolkata and offer a variety of products such as handicrafts, home-made snacks, jams and pickles under the Project Sukanya brand name.





Thus, jobs are created in two different sectors: manufacturing of goods and selling of products. There are 54 mobile kiosks which are manned by 141 women working in shifts. Apart from the women mentioned above, another 3,500 people involved in the manufacturing of products are also benefiting from this initiative.

This initiative was approved by Dr. Manmohan Singh. Aparna promised Banerjee to help in times of emergency. In addition to mobile stalls accessible to the public, Aparna Banerjee set up a common area at Tapsia to ensure that women living in rural areas could gather at one place to display their produce before taking it to the mobile stalls for grading and sale. .

The samples were sorted and classified into three categories. Products falling in category A can be sold immediately, products falling in category B require attractive packaging before sale and those in category C are abundant in the market and consequently have reached market saturation.

This means that Aparna Banerjee can ensure that women only create items that have high value for money and returns. Aparna Banerjee's Project Sukanya is not only a lifesaver for women but also for families.

Education should not only benefit individuals but also society as a whole and this can be learned from the work of Aparna Banerjee. Giving back to society and uplifting the most vulnerable is important for the nation to develop as a whole.
