1. Festival of Holi:
Holi is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Himachal Pradesh. Holi is also known as the festival of colour. It is celebrated every March and lasts for two days. Fasting and praying are the first days. The victory of good over evil is celebrated with bonfires in the evening. It signals the end of a harsh winter. People play with colors and colored water on the second day. Holi can be celebrated all over Himachal Pradesh but places like Palampur, Kangra and Sujanpur, Hamirpur are the biggest Holi celebrations.
2. Lohri Festival:
Lohri is also known as Maghi festival. This festival is held in mid-January every year in Himachal Pradesh. This festival marks the end of winter crops or rabi sowing. Today marks the beginning of winter. The festival is marked by community bonfires and dances as well as folk songs.
3. Gochi Festival:
Himachal Pradesh celebrates Gochi festival every year. It takes place in the Bhaga valley region of the state. This festival marks the birth of a male child. Younger children are subjected to mock marriage at around the age of six. As it is winter, children celebrate this day with snow balls.
4. Vaisakhi Festival:
Vaisakhi is an important festival celebrated in Himachal Pradesh. It is celebrated in April. It celebrates the first day of spring or "Baisakh" and the end of winter. This festival is mostly rural. This festival celebrates the sowing of new crops. On this day, people take bath in the river Ganges at various places including Thattapani, Rewalsar and Prashar lakes near Shimla. Various village festivals include archery, wrestling, and dance.
5. Gugga Fair:
Gugga Jatara is an annual fair held in Himachal Pradesh. It takes place in Bilaspur, Chamba, Sirmur and Chamba. All fairs are held in August. Gugga, a fair that worships the God of Guggala Nag.
6. Festival Pullaich:
Every year, the festival of Pullaich (or Phulech) is held in different parts of Himachal Pradesh. . It is celebrated in places like Kinnaur. It is celebrated in September. This festival is celebrated at the end of autumn. The festival is celebrated by local villagers who go to the hills to collect wild flowers. After that the flowers are brought to the village square. 7. Dussehra Festival:
Dussehra is a popular festival in Himachal Pradesh every year. . It is mostly celebrated in Kullu. It is celebrated in October. During Dussehra, Kullu people gather more than 200 deities from the valley. They ask them to pay obeisance to Lord Raghunathji and bless them. There is lots of singing, dancing and feasting in Silver Valley. According to the history of Himachal Pradesh, dating back 17 centuries, ancient King Jagan placed an idol of King Raghunath or Lord Rama on the throne as part of his penance. The people of the valley worship Lord Rama. This is how the story of Kullu Dussehra began.
