In the initiative of the state Government in Karnataka, National Health Mission has announced the appointment of 1048 Community Health Officer positions in 2022. The District Health societies intend to select 1048 CHOs for Bagalakote, Ballari, Belagavi, Bengaluru Rural, and Urban, Bidar, Chikkaballapura, Chikkamagaluru, Dakshina Kannada, Davanagere, Dharwad, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Kodagu, Kolar, Koppal, Mandya, Mysore, Raichur, Tumkur, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Vijayapura, Yadgiri districts. The main reason for selecting the officers will be to create HWCs and Health Centres. HWCs serve the citizens of the state.
National Health Mission
The NHM or National Health Mission was initiated by the Indian Government in 2013 after joining two health missions, the National Urban Health Mission and National Rural Health Mission which were established in the year 2006. The mission was then extended from 2018 until 2023, focusing on improving rural and city health and services. The mission emphasizes Communicable and non-Communicable Diseases and Reproductive-Maternal-Neonatal-Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCH+A). The aim is to reach improved health standards and quality of healthcare for the population as well as affordable access to medication.

680 positions were announced through government officials of the Karnataka Government 2022, for the post of Community Health Officer to each candidate who is eligible across Karnataka. The CHOs are accountable for the establishment of Health and Wellness Centres across the Urban and rural areas within the state. They are the ones who oversee the activities of each of their HWCs and ensure the health of their clients and increase awareness of the surrounding area. The HWCs will work together to ensure better medical standards and at a reasonable cost. HWC will be one of two parts of the program Aayushman Bharat by the Government of India.
