Significance One Nation One Ration Card
This scheme aims to allow beneficiaries to have nationwide access to ration cards. This scheme is not the only benefit. There are many other benefits. Below are some of the key benefits of ONORC.
Inter-state and intra-state portability ration cards - This scheme's first and most significant feature is the interoperability of RC. It allows beneficiaries to use their card to obtain their entitlement at any FPS shop, regardless of whether they are in the same state as the card that is used in their state. The ration cards of one state were not valid in other states or at FPS shops outside the state where they were registered before the introduction of the scheme.
This scheme gives migrants nationwide access to ration shops (PDS).
The implementation of this scheme in all parts of the country will be aided by technology. The electronic point-of-sale devices, which will be installed at each FPS, will collect data and reflect it on IMPDS. Biometrics will be used to identify the true beneficiary in the technology-initiated scheme.
Beneficiaries of ration cards have the option to choose their ration dealer. They can also switch dealers if they are unhappy with their FPS dealer. one nation one ration card scheme

Conclusion
32 states are currently following the One Nation One Ration Card scheme. The remaining states will soon implement it. However, the number of transaction data from the IMPDS portal (w.r.t. inter-state portability), is very low. It is however quite high when it comes to intra-state transactions. This means that the scheme is very beneficial to migrants and other ration card holders. However, to make it more effective, the central government must work in partnership with the state government.
